About HILL Program

HILL Program is a transitional living program for individuals with an acquired brain injury. Rehabilitation is provided as residential, outreach and/or day treatment.

The program facilities are situated in quiet, residential neighbourhoods with close and convenient access to Hamilton's community services.

A high level of supervision by well-qualified staff ensures each client's safety in both the home and the community.

Clients with a diversity of residual cognitive, behavioural and physical deficits are assessed and treated at HILL Program.

HILL Program is directed by an Occupational Therapist and is based on a comprehensive model of Occupational Performance. HILL Program views each individual as a mental, socio-cultural, physical and spiritual being with the need to function optimally in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure, and with the need to interact meaningfully within his/her environment.

HILL Program values activity as an effective therapeutic tool. It promotes experiential learning which is meaningful to the client. Skills and behaviours learned with this hands-on approach are better retained and more easily applied in new settings.

To ensure optimal progress, therapeutic intervention may involve professional consultation in:

  • occupational therapy
  • physiotherapy
  • speech/language therapy
  • social work
  • vocational coaching
  • specialized education
  • recreation therapy
  • addictions counselling
  • psychology/psychiatry

Monthly case reviews are carried out at HILL Program in consultation with the entire team. Our team approach includes the client, family, staff, case manager, professional consultants and other key supports. Individual therapeutic goals and measurable objectives are developed, reviewed and revised in this setting.

Some common goals may be to enhance/optimize:

  • self-care abilities
  • community access
  • vocational/academic pursuits
  • leisure interests
  • family interaction
  • social skills

with the ultimate goal to progress to a less structured and more independent living environment.
